Here's a full transcript of the episode.

Rob Carnie: 800-CHAB's Ask the Expert focused on Halloween safety today. Thanks to Greg Marcyniuk at Heritage Insurance.

Greg, it's just days away. And just some friendly reminders for local folks.

Greg Marcyniuk: That's correct. It's probably, I would say, the second most favorite time of the year for the children out there, and that's Halloween. And they get all revved up, and they get the treats, and they're going. And the biggest thing is they're revved up before they even get out and get the actual candy from everybody, their treats.

So, I think the first and most important thing is, as far as your kids' costumes, you shouldn't let them wear baggy costumes. You want them to be very fit well. And I would highly recommend that you place reflective tape on the children's costume and make some fun out of it. I know that's what we used to do with Matthew. Just so that they can be seen out at night while they're treating. Again, select face makeup that is non-toxic, to prevent any health issues.

And remind the children to only walk on the sidewalk. And again, to look both ways before they cross the street. And I wouldn't let any children under 12 go out by themselves. They should have an adult with them while they're going out.

And again, remind your children never to approach cars with a stranger offering them candy, just stay away. And once kids get home, make sure to take a good, close look at that candy, because unfortunately, there are people out there that we just can't. The old days are gone, where you could go and get candy apples and all of that. So take a look at that.

And when you're carving pumpkins, make sure you've got good lighting and you purchase a good kit that includes tools that are appropriate for you and your children to carve out those pumpkins. And place any Jack-o-Lanterns that are lit away from any flammables whatsoever.

And then, if you live through or near a busy area in town, like a busy road, make sure you remind your kids just to stay away from them.

There's enough houses around that you can get lots of treats. Go out, let them have fun. But again, just remind yourself and your kids that you have to follow these rules.

Rob: Yeah. Good rules to follow. Hey, as a property owner, I've gotta be careful, too. I should have my property well-lit, because we don't want any injuries on our property, right?

Greg: Oh, for sure, because you could be liable. So, any extension cords for any Halloween decorations, anything like that.

Rob: For these tips and more, and all your insurance needs, all we need to do is go online?

Greg: nohassleinsurance.ca. Or come on down to the corner of Fairford and 1st West.
